Born in Arkansas and raised in west Texas, Dave Gibson is the youngest of three children. His daddy was an oil field worker; his mother was a saint

Dave grew up listening to Elvis, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and country stars like Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. Their songs were the early impetus for his love of music and a lifelong career as a singer-songwriter.

Dave learned to play guitar at 13 when his mom bought him one for Christmas out of a Sears catalog, much to the chagrin of his hard-working father who preferred he pursue a ”sheepskin” (diploma) on the wall. Dave got that diploma, one from high school and one from University of Arkansas. All the while, his music obsession continued.

After graduating from university, he moved to Chicago and became a commercial artist, also teaching school while playing music at night and writing songs. He formed his own band, Dave Gibson and Hackinbush, and became a top band in the Windy City for nearly a decade before moving to Nashville in the early 80s to make his dreams come true.

In Nashville, Dave was quickly discovered by soon-to-be legendary producer Tony Brown who immediately took him into the studio and introduced him to the Oak Ridge Boys who gave Dave his first publishing deal.
