General Information About the Bluebird Café
Many visitors to the Bluebird are looking to break into the music business and ask us for advice. There are many books available on the industry and songwriting, and you should try to read as many as possible. However, there are several points we should mention:
- One performance at the Bluebird, or anywhere else, is not going to turn you into a star. Overnight success takes years!
- You should never pay to have a song published or get a record made. Good quality demos are certainly valuable, but a demo with a strong singer and guitar or piano, well recorded, is equally effective. If your singing or playing is not good enough, take lessons or find someone who is!
- Join writer's organizations such as the Nashville Songwriters Association International and the Songwriters Guild of America. Both offer song critiques as well as valuable
information every songwriter should know.
The Bluebird Cafe has been a home to many great songwriters. Some were successful when we opened, others learned the craft of songwriting from regular performances at our Monday night "open mic" or Sunday night "writer's night". Photos of writers and artists who have played at the Bluebird appear on the walls.
